And now, Ellen DeGeneres: The Beginning is on. Never paid any attention to Ellen until I saw this stand-up special on HBO, and this alone made me a huge fan.
Watched Grand Canyon for the hundredth time today. Still a great movie. I could list a number of reasons to watch it if you never have, but Steve Martin is reason enough.

A couple fan boycotts of MLB have been organized over the last few years, and each time, MLB has managed to duck it -- once by moving up a strike date. Another fan boycott is being organized for July 7. Guess we'll find out if it works.

really going to miss Jack Buck.
Friend of mine pointed me to a clip of the hilarious Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson skit at the Oscars. Quite a lot of Owen links at World of Owen at Wilson-Brothers.com, definitely worth a look.

the DVD Times has a good overview of the films of David Fincher.
Good news for Darren Aronofsky fans: The Fountain nears production after almost losing financing. If for no other reason, you've got to follow the link just to see Brad Pitt's picture.
Watched Behind Enemy Lines at Dad's tonight. Definitely qualifies as a hollywood flick, but it's not too terrible. If you can get past the unapologetic and truly pathetic attempts to rip off the style of directors like Guy Ritchie and Darren Aronofsky, it's actually not a bad movie.
Owen Wilson turns in an unsurprisingly good performance as Chris Burnett. He seemed a little out of place at times, but I think that says a lot more about the horrible editing than his acting. In general, he sold me.
Gene Hackman really impressed me as Admiral Leslie Reigart. By far the most believable character in the movie, and I have to attribute that to his experience and talent.
All in all it made for an enjoyable, if not pensive, couple of hours. That said, if you're a fan of movies like Snatch and Requiem for a Dream, the editing could potentially make it unbearable. Consider yourself warned.
